The August meeting was held on Thursday the 6th at Ben and Mary’s GJ Ceramics. Members present were Ron Cloyd, Betty Cotter, Tish Collins, Ruth McCrea, Bob Peterson, Janet McRea, Bob and Sarah Walsh, Joan Woodward, Bonnie Hellman, Susan Wallace, Pat Feinberg, Harold Snider, Deb Stewart, Joanie Post, Cindy Logue, Beth Walker Annie Stanfield, Andrea Metz, and Mickie Harshman.
We had a short discussion and general approval for a late fall show at The Great Frame Up Gallery. Watch for more information to come on this one.
We will be firing Bob Walsh’s glow worm kiln on Saturday, September 5th. We will start loading the kiln about noon. This firing will go into the evening so anyone interested can bring a covered dish to share with the group. If anyone can come earlier to help with wood cutting and preparation it would be appreciated. If you haven’t seen this awesome kiln in action, this is a don’t miss event! Check out the photo on the home page of this site. Bob and Sarah live at 711 M.8 road in Mack, if you need directions, you can call Bob at 858-9290 or Ron at 245-2320.
On Saturday, August 22nd, there will be a blessing of Ruth McCrea’s new studio, by the Rev Sharyl Peterson. This event is at 2:00 pm and all guild members are invited. Ruth’s address is 515 Virgo in Fruita.
The regular September meeting is cancelled due to the close proximity of the date to the kiln firing.
The guild had the privilege of meeting and welcoming Jake Allee at the meeting. Jake is the new ceramics professor at Mesa State, replacing Vern Mosher. He told us about his early experiences, education, and teaching philosophy. Jake also brought in some examples of his work, and went on to tell us about his glazes, clay bodies, and the development of his style.
