January 2009 Meeting Minutes
new business, demonstration by Tish Collins
The January meeting was held at Ben and Mary’s on the 8th. Members in attendance were Ron Cloyd, Deb Stewart, Bonnie Hellman, Violet Sant, Cindy Logue, Tish Collins, Susan Wallace, Nina Williams, Harold Snider, Joanie Post, Ben and Mary McFarlin, Bev Carnett, and Bev’s guest, Marylou Doak.
New Business that was discussed included:
*I would like to offer postcard reminders for meetings to members who don’t regularly use email. Contact me to get on the mailing list.
* Big thanks to Joanie Post, Susan Wallace, Bob Walsh, and Norm Olson for doing the majority of the work setting up the Guild show at the Art Center!
* Ruth McCrea has gotten a building for her new studio, and is close to having the final construction (insulation, wiring) finished. She is looking for suggestions for setting up and arranging.
* We discussed looking for some new exhibit venues. I have approached The Great Frame Up Gallery, and have gotten a positive response for a spring guild show. More to follow on this one.
* For the February meeting, we are going to have a show and tell discussion. I would like for everyone to bring a picture of a piece that you wish you would have made. We will show these to the group, and discuss the esthetics of the pieces. The purpose is to encourage everyone to stretch the boundaries of their creativity. I will send out more on this one prior to the Feb. meeting reminder.
* Dixie and I would like to host a Saturday video day sometime in February. I have a copy of the Brodnax-Ellis video “Hot Damn Pottry, Not Just Another Tight-Ass Video”, and just got a copy of Matt Long’s “Vessels For Victory”. Others would be welcome too.
We would like to do this as a pot luck, finger food lunch. I will have a couple of proposed dates by the February meeting.
The month’s activity was another demonstration of polymer clay work by Tish Collins (check out her website at www.fineworksinpolymer.com)
Tish covered such subjects as types of clay, clay conditioning, surface treatments, coloring, cane work, mosaics, firing and surface finishing
Thanks Tish, great job!
For those members who haven’t had a chance to check out the guild show at the Art Center, I would highly recommend getting over there and having a look. This is our best show yet. The overall quality of the work this year is incredible!
