March minutes

Lots of business, glaze recipe exchange

The March meeting was held at Ben and Mary’s GJ Ceramics on 3/5/09. Members in attendance were Ron Cloyd, Harold Snider, Joanie Post,Pat Feinberg, Bob Walsh, Ben and Mary McFarlin, Betty Cotter, Ronda Clark, Ruth McCrea, Andrea Metz, and Lindaa McBride.

Business for this month:

The video day on Saturday the 28th was a great success. We had about 8 members that got together, and watched videos by Matt Long, Lana Wilson, and Tony Clennell. There was a plethora of tasty chow, and plenty of relaxed camaraderie.

The Artspace Open Studios tour is going to be on May 2 and 3 (Saturday / Sunday) if you are interested in participating, you can contact me for more information.

Our guild has been invited to have a show / sale at the Great Frame Up Gallery on Broadway, near the Albertson’s store. This is going to start on May 1, which will fall on the First Friday.  The show will run for about a month, more details will be forthcoming. Harold has volunteered to help with the logistics, I would like at least one more volunteer to help us get this organized.

We have also been invited to do a show at the Art Matters Gallery in Salida, in July of 2010. More to come on this one, here is a link to the website: http://www.artmatters-gallery.com

It was decided by members in attendance that we will have an increase in dues.  For new incoming members the dues will be $30.00.  Dues for the rest of us will go to $30.00 in January of 2010.

A reminder that if your dues for this year are not yet paid up, please get this taken care of as soon as possible. You can send a check to Mary McFarlin, Harold or me.

The Randy Brodnax workshop is scheduled for May 30-June 1.  Fee for members is $250.00, with half of the fee due by April 15.  You can either pay this to Bob Walsh or to me. For those who have not had a chance to attend a workshop with Randy, I promise it will be an experience you won’t forget!
We will also let those who wish attend at a single day rate. The fee for this will be $75.00 per day, plus a $30.00/day firing fee if you want to fire any work.

I was approached recently by an art teacher from one of the local elementary schools asking for help making bowls for the next Empty Bowl project.  Response from the membership was positive.

I am still soliciting ideas for activities for future meetings.  If anyone has ideas, please throw them at me!!

The activity for the month was a glaze recipe exchange.  There were so  many great recipes passing around that we decided to post them on the guild website.  I will get this started soon, and inform everyone when it’s there.
