March 2010 Minutes
The March meeting was held on the 4th at the studio of Mary’s Ceramics.
Members present were Ron Cloyd, Betty Cotter, Harold Snider, Joanie Post, Gen Morris, Ben and Mary McFarlin, Ruth McCrea, Cindy Logue, Ronda Clark, Lindaa McBride, Carol Proud, and Jake Allee. We welcomed a new member this month; Dave Cornes is new to the area, having come from the Front Range. He is living in Palisade.
Business for this month included:
- The show at Art Matters Gallery in Salida is on the books for the month of July. We will need to have pieces there no later than June 28th. I am asking each interested person to submit up to 3 pieces. We will have several cars going to Salida for the initial delivery. Please contact Ron if you can haul work, or need yours delivered. The gallery is also asking for photos of member’s work for publicity. These need to be submitted by May 15. Please email or deliver photos to Ron ASAP so we can start getting ready for this. There will be an opening reception in Salida on July 10th.
- The Steven Hill workshop at Bob Walsh’s is a GO! The roster is almost full. If you haven’t paid Bob your initial fee for half of the cost of the workshop, you need to do so immediately.
- Harold talked about an upcoming demonstration opportunity at the Mesa County Fair, on July 20-24. For more information on this, please contact Harold.
- We ran into a snag with our intention of awarding guild prizes to the Mesa State Student Art Show. We discovered that this does not fit in to the protocol of the event. The college does not allow for outside entities awarding prizes at this time. Our idea has gone to committee, and they will consider letting us do it next year. Meanwhile we are investigation perhaps donating to a scholarship fund, or perhaps helping fund some exhibit space. We will keep everyone informed as progress is made.
- Jake Allee gave the group a short preview of his workshop that happened over the weekend of March 13-14. Those of us who attended the workshop had a fantastic time, and saw some very unique and interesting techniques.
Upcoming Meeting Agendas
- Ron put out a call for ideas for meetings. If you have anything you can suggest for activities, please let him know.
- There is space for photos of everyone’s work on the guild website! If you have photos you would like to have exhibited there, please contact Ron or Harold.
- The event for the April meeting will be Gen Morris demonstrating her “cold finish “technique she uses for adding color and character to her sculptures.
