May 2010 meeting minutes

upcoming exhibit at Art Matters Gallery in Salida, fresh ideas for guild activities, June meeting

The May meeting was held at Wayne and Kathy Petefish’s GJ Ceramics studio on the 6th.
Attendees were: Harold Snider, Joan Woodward, Ronda Clark, Susan Wallace, Bonnie Hellman, Carol Proud, Bob Peterson, Jack Griggs, Joanie Post, Annie Stanfield, Deb Stewart, Betty Cotter, Ashtonn Means, Wayne Petefish, Ron Cloyd, and Jake Allee.

After a very tasty dinner of grilled burgers and dogs, with all of the sides and amenities served up by Wayne and Kathy, we settled into a business meeting.

The exhibit at Art Matters Gallery in Salida is coming up fast.  I would like to have a count of everyone that is planning on participating in this ASAP.  The gallery is asking for a few photos of our work for the publicity no later than June 1.  Please email me within the next couple of weeks if you intend to participate.  Also send photos if you haven’t already.  The show will run July 1 through the 30th. There will be a reception of July 17th, 3-6pm. We will have to get everything to the gallery by June 29 at the latest.  I will make a trip myself, and hopefully other members will also.  More to come on that.  Please email or call me with any questions you may have.http://www.artmatters-gallery.com

Harold brought in some information about artsmap, site is http://www.theartsmap.com  This is a website that identifies artist’s locations worldwide, and you can enter your own information on it. Free to Join, I did!  Definitely worth checking out!

Wayne had some ideas for group activities that he presented,
A fundraiser / dinner partnered with a local restaurant or other facility, with the purpose of getting the guilds name and work before the public.  Perhaps also donating  proceeds to the school district art program.

We also discussed the idea of offering some mentorship with the school arts program. Wayne and I will make initial contacts to see what the interest is.

We are also looking at the idea of having some glaze development sessions with our group.  Preliminary ideas are to use the meetings to work on formulations, and having members or small groups work with different variations of the same recipe, then at a later date comparing results.

The fall show at the Art Center will be September 3-25.

This month’s activity was a member critique.  Several members brought in pieces; overall opinion was great for all of them.  Suggestions for improvement were positive and well taken.

The June meeting will be our annual spring potluck.  The date has been set for Saturday, June 12 at Ron and Dixie’s home.  Due to popular demand we will have a gift exchange similar to the winter holiday party.  Spouses and significant others are invited and expected!
