August and September 2011 minutes
Sculpture demo by Daphna Russell, clay whistles, possible gallery purchase
Our August meeting was held on the 4th of the month at GJ Ceramics. Members present were Ron Cloyd, Pat Feinberg, Gen Morris, Wayne Petefish and Daphna Russell.
The August activity was a sculpture by our own Daphna Russell. Daphna spent about two hours demonstrating one of her horse sculptures. She discussed subjects such as proportion, construction, composition and biomorphics as she worked. Those members who did not have a chance to see this one missed one of the very best live demos we have had. Hopefully, we can get a return engagement on this one.
The September meeting was also held at GJ Ceramics, on Thursday the 2nd. Members present were Ron Cloyd, Ashtonn Means, Bob Walsh, Pat Feinberg, Joanie Post, Susan Wallace, Wayne and John Petefish, Ronda Clark. We also had two new members join us, Susan Oulette and Sarah Daragan. Also attending were friends from the Montrose area, Nita Lightsey and Dave Beezley.
This meeting’s activity was clay whistles, led by Ashtonn Means. Ashtonn demonstrated the construction of whistles, and showed us a variety of examples of whistles she has made. The group then made whistles under the guidance of Ashtonn and a couple of other folks in the group that have whistle experience.
Business for the month was an announcement by Bob Walsh that Working Artist’s Gallery is soon to come up for sale. Bob spoke to the current owner, and was told that a discounted price for the business has been offered if members of JCAG are interested in purchasing the business as a group. For members who may have an interest in combining forces to purchase this gallery, please contact Bob for more details.
